KAMAZ has shown its marketable armored vehicle

As part of the recent visit of the president of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov to KAMAZ a new marketable armored vehicle called Typhoon was shown. President Minnikhanov did even a small test drive of new Typhoon.
In June the armored vehicle was shown to Sergey Shoygu, Russia’s defense minister. At that time the vehicle was still in the assembly shop without wheels. According to the KAMAZ press office when developing a promising model a great deal of consideration was given to the warfare knowledge accumulated over the last ten years and the experience in making and using armored vehicles with reinforced countermine protection such as MRAP.

KAMAZ-63969 is a 4WD 6х6 armored vehicle. The armour can protect the crew from 14.5 mm bullets, armour-piercing bullets such as B-32 and armor-piercing incendiary bullets and from the blowing of 8 kg of TNT under the bottom.
The armored vehicle can accommodate 2 crew members plus 10 paratroopers. The vehicle is equipped with a remote weapon station developed by Elektromashina JSC.
According to Edward Bazhenov the remote weapon station has been developed by order of the Defense Ministry and can be placed on any moving or stationary object.
“We have already set our weapon station on the armored vehicle called Tiger”, said Mr. Bazhenov. He explained that the mass of the module depends on the mass of its equipment and can vary between 100-120 kg and 180-200 kg. The module can be equipped with machine guns PKT with a caliber of 7,62х54R and more rounds. It can also have a rocket propelled grenade AGS-30.
The armored vehicles of Typhoon type is a brand new Russian model which stands out from its Russian and foreign counterparts by its reinforced protection level. Typhoon’s specifications exceed international requirements that its foreign counterparts comply with.
For example the mass of KAMAZ-63968 Typhoon is 21 tons. The personnel module of the vehicle can hold up to 18 persons. Paratroopers can dismount either through the platform or through the door.

A number of advanced solutions have been used to provide the protection of Typhoon vehicles such as integrated ceramic armor to protect main projections of the vehicle, mine resistant seats for the crew and paratroopers, glass cover protecting against large-caliber firearms, new types of armoured steel that are consicered to be the best in the world.
Typhoon has the independent hydropneumatic suspension, automatic transmission, brand new engines and on-board information systems.
According to its developers Typhoon can be used for reconnaissance, command and staff, fire support, engineer reconnaissance, NBC reconnaissance purposes. It can also convoy other vehicles and carry medical units and personnel.
